The Director of Global Business Applications is responsible for providing management and implementation of strategic initiatives and support of all ERP, MES and PLM applications within JDSU. The role provides direction and leadership to the applications team as well as ensuring business alignment for the design, development, and implementation.
Because it is imperative that IT supports business applications and JDSU's future business goals, objectives and numerous process improvements, the Director must develop an intimate understanding of the business, issues and competitive challenges facing the company. In this role, the Director works closely with the Business Engagement Director team to ensure delivery of the prioritized initiatives in this application area.
The Director is accountable for working with the Director of Business Management for financial management and the Director of Support in building the operational model to provide world-class applications support to allow for the continued growth of this organization.
The Director is also responsible for providing leadership to business units, functional and geographical entities, outside of his/ her control, as well as the global IT group to identify and prioritize application projects and enhancements. The Director will serve as a member of the IT management team reporting to the Vice President of Enterprise Business Services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, other duties may be assigned:
- Providing oversight and strategic IT roadmap planning related to the evolution of JDSU's customer-facing applications.
- Partnering with the Business Engagement Directors to ensure strategic management of the IT portfolio for the business
- Provide leadership, both local and global, in the application selection process, implementation planning, and production management of the applications.
- Be member of IT leadership team responsible for setting technology strategy.
- Manage effective Product knowledge transfer for smooth transition from Engineering to Sustaining Support.
- Direct and lead the Global Business Applications team.
- Plan, organize, and lead projects, initiatives, and teams. Delivering in a timely manner and within expected cost and risk parameters.
- Ensure adherence of the applications development group to formal processes, standards, and total quality practices using standard SDLC, Project Management methodologies, and Architectural standards.
- Direct the design, development and maintenance of systems and processes to meet company objectives and needs.
- Work closely with the executive team and contribute to achieving goals and objectives of the company through enabling IT applications.
- Working with the Director of Business Management to administer and control the budget to contribute to a cost effective operation and to manage strategic partnerships and vendor relationships including critical outside consultant/outsourcing providers.
- Maintain awareness of state-of-the-art development tools, programming techniques, compliance requirements, problem-solving and computing equipment, especially in areas of ERP, MES, and PLM.
- Assume overall responsibility for ensuring all organizational policy, procedures and processes are compliant with organizational and statutory requirements, including FDA, security, privacy and Sarbanes Oxley.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's Degree or Higher. Major in Computer Science, Business or Management Information Systems preferred.
- 15+ years of increasingly responsible hands-on and leadership experience in information technology gained with companies respected for their well-managed information systems organizations. A minimum of five plus (5+) years functioning in IT senior management.
- Demonstrated professionalism including exceptional skills at leading, planning, organizing, and controlling. Ability to attract and retain top quality talent. Ability to partner effectively with IT and business management. Ability to work seamlessly between strategic and tactical levels of operation.
- Must have extensive background or exposure to business processes and technology best practices. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to analyze and solve problems; ability to prioritize and organize. Demonstrated skill in communicating with both business and technical partners.
- A strong working knowledge involving a wide range of ERP, MES, and PLM technologies along with a solid grasp of the trends and direction of emerging technologies. Possess the ability to assess and impact planned information technology investments within the Company. Exposure to a broad range of processes, platforms, architecture applications and hardware.
- Demonstrated ability to build and execute an application framework including risk management, resource management, budget management, and accountability.
- Strong Leadership and Interpersonal experience.
- Strong Knowledge of Software Development Methodology, Including Development pipeline, Quality Assurance, Configuration Mgt, Release Management and Change Control.
- Must have demonstrated experience managing contracts and budgets.
- Very strong capacity to understand and analyze business requirements and develop technology solutions.
